Best Food for Baby Reptiles.... & Dart Frogs & Spiders & Fish? #geckos #gecko 🦎 🦎
We have been getting a LOT of requests asking "What is the best live feeder food for my baby reptiles / geckos". There are many but these may be the best.
From ease of feeding and care to how quickly they multiply, this HAS TO BE the best feeder insect available - for very small animals.
These are great for geckos of course but can also be used for fish, spiders, dart frogs, and other small pets.
I walk through the entire process of setting up a breeding enclosure from beginning to end.

    I wouldve just dumped it all in there and mixed it up good before i counted them 1 by 1 like that. Or maybe put the old substrate in a container small enough to fit into the new bigger container, then force them to migrate by not feeding the old smaller container.

      @@SupremeGeckoyou're very welcome! I'm guessing this may be one of the videos you were trying to film while also getting the golden gecko video, so I just wanted to also encourage you by saying it's never bad to take a few short cuts! I used to make a lot of really long videos, and editing so many different clips in and out can be a lot of work, and those firebrats sure were trying to give you a run for your money! Don't overwork yourself for us, sometimes you may just want to turn the camera off and say what you did when it wasn't rolling 😂 have a great day to you Wally and anyone else in the Supreme Gecko Team who needs to hear it!

    • @SupremeGecko
      @SupremeGecko 4 дня назад

      @@nihilusdirus It was!!! Funny, the firebrats were behaving themselves but the doorbell interrupted a couple of times :) Great point!! Can you tell at times I am overthinking the process? I've never been comfortable with ad hoc type of recordings but I should try. Thanks for the encouragement.

    • @nihilusdirus
      @nihilusdirus 4 дня назад

      @@SupremeGecko The closest I would say to "overthinking" (I can't read minds, just compare what I see to what I did when I over thought when I made similar videos :)) ) was when you had a lot of "woosh" sound effects with sweeping transitions, like around 0:40 and 0:51 if I remember correctly. The volume of the woosh can drown out the speaking so it's best done when there's a "beat" of silence between cuts, OR it's covering up that a bit of audio accidentally got cut - the swoosh sound can trick a person into hearing the rest of the word if you accidentally only recorded half of the word. The visual of the sweeping transition, when happening too often (every 5 or 10 seconds) can be almost dizzying, it's almost better to not do a visual swish sometimes. I think there were only a few of those "woosh/sweep" moments right at the beginning that I thought might be because of juggling a lot of videos at once! Adding transitions like the sweep (that's what it's called on my program) can be really time consuming, so video editors can often save themselves some trouble when they feel like they have to do so many back to back to just do 1 at the start, and then a minute or two later use it for another transition. I think this was an awesome video with some really awesome editing and transitions, and I'm a big fan of the sweeps, zooms, sounds, and everything! It's energetic but not overwhelming. But I also know that sometimes as editors, we can think, "Is this too boring? Maybe I should add this too!" When you have a camera in one place, and you stand in one place, you can get by with having a lot of "cuts" without transition effects even if they're really short, because our eyes and brains are focused on the speaker. There's cool videos on RUclips of optical illusion/magicians moving things around and the viewer is supposed to guess "how times did the actors change coats?" Or something plain, and everyone overlooks that an actor in a gorilla suit snuck by because the attention was on the coats, for example. Bit absurd example but it's the first that came to my mind! Haha :) So if it's easier the next time you have to come back and go away from something over and over, and the clips are getting edited together, transitions aren't necessary if the majority of the room is the same, and it saves a lot of time (for me anyways, just in my experience!). If you pull out a new container, that could be a cool time to add a new effect - like cheering noises, clapping, oohs and ahhhs, and the classic woosh sound! I hope what I said makes sense, I don't think I'm the best at explaining visual things with words, but I used to spend a lot of my time editing videos and it was a lot of fun, and I tried to learn ways to keep it fun but make sure I didn't make it harder than it had to be! I overthink things when I have too many short clips to work with. As always, great work and I love your channel!

    • @nihilusdirus
      @nihilusdirus 4 дня назад

      @@SupremeGeckofor an example to make something easier if you keep getting interruptions, if you can find a way to do voiceovers over your critters, that might be a good way to save you some time! Maybe during feeding or packaging/shipping times, you could record some videos of your many different critters and save it all as "B roll" so if you're ever doing another video on dubias for example, but the doorbell keeps interrupting you and you can't quite get a line right on camera like you want, you can "add it in post" with some video of your dubias and your audio, even if it's just a 5 second clip or a much longer segment! Or, if you keep getting lines interrupted, you could put the camera at an angle that your mouth isn't visible, so you can add audio over later and not worry about things like doorbells or dogs cutting in. I think these are things you've probably used to one extent or the other, so I'm going to think of an even funnier solution.... If your dog (I know you've mentioned in videos before that Gus would sometimes make you pause recordings) would possibly cause a pause you don't want, a novel solution would be to have a screen like an "Emergency Broadcast System" break that says it's a Gus interruption, with a cute Gus face, or Gus chasing a mailman to satisfy the doorbell AND dog qualifications. You could narrate over it explaining whatever bit you felt got interrupted by the interference, and the audience could get a giggle! You could also do little "narration break" screens for different critters, like your geckos, isopods, dubias, crickets, etc I'm a digital artist and I used to animate, I think it would be fun to make something like that for you if you thought it would be worth considering!

    These seem interesting. Do they have any other common name? They look weirdly familiar to me, almost like a harlequin roach and silverfish combined. Personally I just use fruit flies and micro roaches such as little Kenyans and hooded Schwartz, but I may have to give these a try.

    • @SupremeGecko

      Thanks for watching. Common Name- Firebrats. They ARE similar to silverfish but they require far less humidity and lots of heat. Fruit flies- these are bigger as adults. And, I believe for a lot of people, have less of a stigma than roaches. They will not live if they get out of the enclosure either.
